KINSHASA (Reuters) - Moise Katumbi, the powerful governor of Democratic Republic of Congo's copper-rich Katanga province, announced on Tuesday that he had stepped down from his government post and resigned from President Joseph Kabila's ruling party.

BANGUI (Reuters) - Fierce fighting between militia and U.N. peacekeepers erupted in the Central African Republic on Tuesday as President Catherine Samba-Panza rushed back early from the U.N. General Assembly in a bid to end days of violence in which at least 37 people died.

THE HAGUE (Reuters) - Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court accused former Congo vice-president Jean-Pierre Bemba, his former lawyer and three other allies on Tuesday of corrupting witnesses in an attempt to secure his acquittal.

BANGUI/UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Central African Republic's interim president, Catherine Samba-Panza, left the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Monday to return home due to the worst violence in the capital of her country this year, two Western diplomats said.

BANGUI (Reuters) - U.N. peacekeepers fired warning shots in the air to disperse thousands of protestors calling for the rearming of the Central Africa Republic's national army, as at least one person was killed in a third day of violence.
