DIFFA, Niger (Reuters) - Despite years of intimidation by the violent extremist group Boko Haram, the people of southeastern Niger's Diffa region had never held a summit to confront the threat - perhaps with good reason.

ABUJA (Reuters) - The number of children forced to flee Boko Haram's insurgency in Nigeria and neighboring countries has reached 1.4 million, the U.N. children agency UNICEF said on Friday.

ABUJA (Reuters) - Nigeria's security agency said on Sunday it had made significant breakthroughs in the fight against Boko Haram and arrested 20 prominent members of the militant Islamist group accused of orchestrating several deadly attacks.

N'DJAMENA (Reuters) - Chad, a leading country in a military task force against Boko Haram, has sentenced 10 members of the Islamist militants to death on terrorism charges, the chief prosecutor said on Friday.
