N'DJAMENA (Reuters) - Chad launched a U.S.-backed counter-terrorism exercise on Monday grouping 1,300 soldiers from 28 African and Western countries, billing it as a warm-up for an offensive against Nigerian Islamist insurgent group Boko Haram.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United Nations expects the Nigerian military to do more to combat Boko Haram and urged Nigeria and its neighbors Chad, Niger and Cameroon to allow hot pursuit of the militants across borders as this was key to a regional offensive.

N'DJAMENA (Reuters) - Boko Haram fighters attacked a Chadian village overnight, killing several people including a local chief, in the first known lethal attack by the Nigerian militant group in Chad, residents and a security source said on Friday.

NIAMEY (Reuters) - Thousands of civilians fled their homes in the southeastern Nigertown of Diffa this week, officials said on Thursday, following waves of cross-border raids and suicide bombings by Nigerian militant group Boko Haram.

NIAMEY/N'DJAMENA (Reuters) - Two female suicide bombers attacked the Nigerfrontier town of Diffa on Wednesday, security sources said, shortly after Chad's armysaid it had killed 13 fighters from the Islamist militant group Boko Haram in the Nigerian town of Gambaru.
