BUJUMBURA (Reuters) - Burundian police fired tear gas and water cannon on Friday at hundreds of protesters opposed to the president running for a third term, a Reuters witness said, a further sign of tension in a nation that emerged from civil war a decade ago.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has voiced concerns about violence in the run-up to Burundi's presidential election and urged the government to ensure the vote is free and fair, the United Nations said on Wednesday.

BUJUMBURA (Reuters) - Burundi's Roman Catholic Church, representing more than two thirds of the population in the central African nation, said on Saturday the incumbent president should not stand for a third term in the June elections.
