NAIROBI (Reuters) - Burundi's President Pierre Nkurunziza said on Wednesday that Burundians would fight against any peacekeepers sent into the country by the African Union, in his first public response to the AU's plan to deal with an escalating political crisis.

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - The African Union sought to reassure Burundi on Friday that a plan to send peacekeepers there is meant to bring a peaceful end to eight months of violence, and is not part of any "other agenda."

NAIROBI (Reuters) - A former senior Burundi military officer who quit the army this year said on Wednesday he had launched a new force to oppose President Pierre Nkurunziza, whose re-election for a third term this year has plunged the nation into chaos.
