NIAMEY (Reuters) - Niger will hold an election on Sunday in which President Mahamadou Issoufou is running for a new term with a vow to crush an Islamist militant threat, but the opposition accuses him of another type of crackdown - against them.

DIFFA, Niger (Reuters) - Despite years of intimidation by the violent extremist group Boko Haram, the people of southeastern Niger's Diffa region had never held a summit to confront the threat - perhaps with good reason.

(Reuters) - Niger increased its 2015 budget by 53.40 billion CFA ($92.16 million) to factor in higher spending on the fight against Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram and preparations for next year's elections, the government said on Wednesday.
