KIGALI (Reuters) - RwandAir has signed a deal to buy two planes from Airbus as part of its expansions plans.
The carrier's boss, John Mirenge, said the Airbus A330-200 and A330-3000 would be delivered in September and December next year, without disclosing how much it paid for them.
"We have found the A330 to perfectly support our plans to expand into Europe and Asia, to enhance regional presence, to open up new routes and to grow our market share," he said at the signing ceremony with Airbus officials in the Rwandan capital Kigali on Tuesday.
RwandAir officials say the airline expects to break even by 2018, and plans to carve out a niche by connecting under-served destinations across Africa.
In June the carrier signed a deal with Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development (PTA) Bank for a $160 million loan as part of the financing to buy the two Airbus aircraft.
